A good teacher is a teacher without a textbook.这句话的含义并不是提倡教师不带课本上讲台，而是提醒教师不要过分依赖教材。著名教育理论家哈玛尔（Dell Harmer）指出：“The textbook is an aid and not a Bible. The teacher will have to work out the best way to use the textbook，he should never let the textbook use him.”另一位著名教育理论家富兰（Fullan）也指出：“An approved textbook may easily become the curriculum in the classroom，yet fail to incorporate significant features of the policy or goals that it is supposed to address. Reliance on the textbook may distract attention from behaviors and educational beliefs crucial to the achievement of desired outcomes.”这段话也告诫我们：过分地依赖课本就无法达到教学目标。
