知识分子如何想象自己的身份——关于知识分子社会角色的若干定义的反思

[中文提要]现代知识分子如何构想自己？这既是一个知识分子如何扮演社会角色的理论问题，又是一个复杂的社会实践问题。文章着重分析了西方知识社会学中若干种有影响的理论，进而对知识分子问题中独立与依存、制度化与业余倾向、普遍的与专家的知识分子、立法者与解释者、知识分子与媒介的关系等问题展开了讨论。作者认为，透过这些关于知识分子身份的想象解析，可以揭示现代知识分子的一系列困境，其社会角色面临着深刻的转变是显而易见的。
ABSTRACT
How do modern intellectuals imagine themselves? That is a big question concerning both what their social role is and how to play the social role. The author analyses several influential concepts of intellectuals in the West and then concentrates upon the key points such as autonomy/organic, expert/amateur, universal/specific intellectuals, legislator/interpreter, intellectual/ mass media and so on. The author makes the point that modern intellectuals have faced a dilemma in which their social role dramatically changed.
